What Is Supported Employment?
Satisfying employment is a key factor in recovery for many people who have been diagnosed with mental illness. Research lists many reasons for motivation to work such as enhancing self-esteem, having somewhere to go during the day, feeling connected to other people, learning new skills and increasing income.
Supported Employment is a well-defined approach that is led by credentialed Employment Specialists. Our Employment Specialists use an evidence-based practice called ‘Individual Placement Service’ (IPS) developed by Dartmouth Research College. Using IPS, we help job seekers find work in positions that offer competitive pay, fit with their lives and maximize their potential. We focus on strengths and skills, not deficits. We offer continual support for as long as an employer or employee desires assistance.
Peer Support services and Supported Employment services work together to transform the healthcare system based on the recovery model.
